Great video showing more of the amazing world of Amalur!
Gamasutra reports that 38 Studios has joined the Entertainment Software Association.
Curt Schilling-founded Kingdoms of Amalur house 38 Studios and King’s Bounty: Legions publisher Nival have joined U.S. game industry trade body the Entertainment Software Association, the organization said Monday.
The addition of the two studios brings the total number of ESA member companies to 33. “We look forward to working with these companies as we further our mission to fight piracy, protect the First Amendment liberties of video games, and position our industry for future growth,” said ESA president and CEO Michael Gallagher in a statement.
38 Studios is headquarted in Providence, Rhode Island, and is currently at work on a fantasy-themed MMORPG, codenamed Copernicus.
Its subsidiary studio, Big Huge Games from Baltimore, is developing a fantasy RPG set in the same universe as Copernicus, called Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. 38 Studios was founded in 2006 by former Red Sox star pitcher Curt Schilling.
The 200-person Nival has three development studios with a concentration on strategy games. The company was founded in 1996 and is behind games including Blitzkrieg, Silent Storm and Etherlords. Nival will also be publishing and co-developing with KranX the turn-based strategy game King’s Bounty: Legions.
“We felt it was an important step in our expansion into North America to include joining the ESA,” said David D. Christensen, general manager of Nival’s North American office. Nival is headquartered in Moscow.

Set in an entirely new universe crafted by New York Times best-selling author R. A. Salvatore, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is brought to life visually through the trademark visceral style of renowned artist and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane. With a sprawling explorable world and deep RPG gameplay at its core, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning adds a new level of intense action combat to the genre and a one-of-a-kind advancement system as players unfold and evolve their destiny through constant character customization. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is being created under the leadership of Ken Rolston, lead designer of the critically acclaimed open-world RPGs Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Just incase you can’t get enough of Reckoning, here is a great demo of the game!

Lots of great feedback from E3 including this article from Tom Goldman for the Escapist!

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning shoves everything you love about the best RPGs into one package.
I was very impressed by the first look that 38 Studios gave us at Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, its massive RPG developed with the help of Ken Rolston, R.A. Salvatore, Todd McFarlane, Curt Schilling, and Big Huge Games. At E3, 38 Studios actually impressed me even more with gameplay specifics that show the breadth players will experience on their runs (plural) through the game.
In Reckoning, players awaken on the top of a pile of bodies. Everyone in Reckoning’s world has a destiny, but because you were revived by a magical invention called the Well of Souls you forge your own. Players choose from four different races at the beginning of the game. You’ll be able to fully customize the look of your character with all of the expected alterations, such as piercings, tattoos, ears, hair, face, mouth, nose, and all other associated human body parts and decorations.
Reckoning features 5 environmental zones each with their own unique looks, 125 dungeons, 4 giant towns, and plenty of villages in between. Our controlled demo started in a village with the player walking up to a guard and trying to pickpocket him. We got caught, and were accosted by a guard to either pay a fine, go to jail, or fight. Very Oblivion.

Awesome new trailer of Reckoning released, I think this is the best one yet. The more I see of this game the more I want to play!
By now, everyone knows that the upcoming action fantasy game Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is backed by Major League pitcher Curt Schilling. It’s also supported by an all-star cast, which includes a lead designer that worked on the Elder Scrolls games, an artist that created Spawn, and a story that is penned by a New York Times best-selling author. But will this talented team bring fantasy fans the next big epic role-playing game that they’re looking for? At EA’s press conference during E3, Curt Schilling came on stage to introduce his game and talk about how Reckoning is full of infinite possibilities, endless choice, and distinctly fast and fluid combat.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is set to provide hundreds of hours of gameplay in an open-world setting. The trailer included a montage of various locations within the game, including the dark elf capital of Rathir that we visited in our pre-E3 demo earlier. You play as a hero that has been reborn and is on a quest to look for his or her killer. The trailer showed a lot of fast-paced combat against monsters and creatures of all shapes and sizes that was set in a world with a lot of pastel tones. Reckoning has a class system called destinies, and you’ll be able to play and evolve your character depending on what play style you like. In the trailer, various spells and a variety of weapons were highlighted as we watched the main character dispel foes with a ring of fire, as well as destroy them by raising stalagmites from the earth.
For more information on the game, please read our previous coverage of the game here. We hope to update you with more information as E3 continues. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is set to be released sometime in 2012.
